My Hobby Radio Station
Wait, no racks of equipment? No! Not now, not ever! Top left is the Yaesu 857D transceiver. It transmits on 160-10 meter bands, 6 meters, 2 meters, and 70 centimeters, with 100W on HF/6m, 50W on 2m, and 20W on 70cm, featuring wide receive coverage from 0.1-56, 76-108, 118-164, and 420-470 MHz. Below that is the TEKPOWER 30 amp switching power supply. Top right is the President McKinley AM/SSB CB Radio. Below that is the Yaesu FT-2980 Two Meter (VHF) 80-watt transceiver. Below that is the MFJ-941E antenna tuner. Out front is the Uniden BC365CRS scanner. It's an analog, bottom-of-the-line unit. Next to the scanner is the Putikeeg Morse code straight key. Putikeeg spelled backward is Geek it up! I also have a General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS ) license. I keep the FRS, GMRS, and MURS radios on stand-by, but I monitor it all.
I use a Zero Five 10-40 meter ground plane antenna for both the Yaesu 857D and the President CB Radio. I use a Cushcraft Ringo Ranger II antenna for ham VHF work. I don't use UHF. I have two discone "storm" antennas in the attic. One is connected to the scanner. I don't use amplifiers. The D-104 microphone in the back is not used. I bought it at a "hamfest" for $20 because I always wanted one. I don't know why because I think they're kind of ugly.
