05-27-2026 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, and we got a little bit of rain last night. Hopefully, our supply lakes received more than the city itself. I don’t have anything scheduled for today. I’ve been thinking about driving to Lawton just to go to their Golden Corral. Ours mysteriously closed some years ago. I use the word “mysterious” because the reason for closing is a mystery to me, regardless of how many other people know the reason. During COVID, my wife and I drove to Denton, ate burgers & fries in the In-N-Out parking lot, and drove home. Sometimes you feel like a nut! Sometimes you don’t. Remember that commercial? My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 5:20 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 84.2% Kemp: 94.6% Kickapoo: 86.8%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 89.0% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo (85.5%) to determine drought stage.
--- 5:22 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 9,620 Megawatts.
--- 8:15 AM - FEMA Daily Operations Briefing
--- 11:15 AM - I’m hearing some noisy departures from Sheppard Air Force Base. These aren't the usual resident T-38s, but something a little more robust. I can’t see them due to the low cloud layer. A cross-country flight, maybe?
--- 12:10 PM - Local traffic has popped up on CB Radio Channel 1. It sounds like something involving trucking. It is unknown if these are the same people I usually hear in the early mornings. Channel 19 trucking traffic was busier early this morning, but it’s a little light right now. Even the DX channels are a little light at the moment.
--- 2:45 PM - There's a nice conversation on CB Radio Channel 19 between two truckers passing through town. You never know what you're going to hear. I suspect this type of radio traffic will increase as we approach the bottom of the current 11-year solar cycle. I'm guessing many truckers just don't want to listen to all the daytime and evening "skip" (distant signals) these days.
--- 4:00 PM - Have you seen casino dealers clap their hands and show them, palms up, for the overhead cameras? It’s known as “clearing the hands”, showing that no chips or money are being concealed? Sometimes, at the Walmart self-checkout, after I’ve scanned my last item, I’ll clap my hands and show them, palms up. I'm sure they think I'm nuts.
--- 4:30 PM - Did you attend the air show at Sheppard Air Force Base in April of 2024? If so, did you notice the Air Force sniper on the catwalk of the control tower? The world has changed.
4:40 PM - I’m listening to two guys chatting on the CB radio. One has his “echo” cranked up. I’m curious. If he called his bank about a problem and the banker (or bankster) had the same echo, would he, the CBer, be upset? Or would he say, “Nice phone signal ya got there, Good Buddy!” By the way, in 62 years on the CB Radio, I have never heard the term "good buddy" on the radio.
--- 6:00 PM - The Local Group has arrived on CB Radio Channel 23. Meanwhile, I’m watching a Richard Musgrave-Evan oil painting video on YouTube.
--- 8:00 PM - There is a small line of storms moving this way between Childress and Vernon. Unknown if they will reach us. I haven't heard any weather updates from our local Amateur Radio Skywarn storm spotters on 146.940 MHz.
