05-19-2026 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, and it looks like we have good chances of rain for the rest of the week. I got my yard mowed yesterday, so I’m ready. As usual, I have ordered rain with no wind or hail. Let’s see what we get. The James V. Allred Unit is wide awake on 153.815 MHz, so tune into the action on your scanner radio. There are a few Amateur (ham) Radio stations conversing in Morse code on the 40-meter band, so I’ll read that while I enjoy my first cup of Folgers Black Silk coffee.

--- 5:30 AM - I just saw an Oscar Mayer ad online: "The Wienie 500 is BACK. And it’s so close you can almost taste it." May 22. 2pm ET. Live on FOX. There was a pic of the Wienermobile revving its engine. Is this something I should watch? I'll have to think about that.

--- 8:35 AM - FEMA Daily Operations Briefing

--- 9:05 AM - The CB Radio is very active this morning with strong signals scattered across the band. At the moment, I'm listening to the DXers on Channel 38, Lower Sideband (SSB). Get a CB Radio and join the fun.

--- 1:23 PM - I contacted a station in Fort Pierce Inlet State Park (US-1872) in Florida on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

--- 3:00 PM - Wichitan Army Specialist E-4 Zan Hess was killed in action in Vietnam in 1967. I just happened to see his name in concrete of a curb in the City View area of Wichita Falls. It said, "My Name Is Zan Hess." I don't know if he did it or if someone was trying to frame him. Either way, thank you for your service and sacrifice, Zan.

--- 4:05 PM - UPDATED - International Space Station Passes Over Wichita Falls

--- 5:00 PM - There is some argument over the origin of civilization - but this is unimportant compared with the question of when it will resume operation.

--- 5:10 PM - On a family disturbance call that turned out not to be one, a woman told Wichita Falls police that her husband refused to get off the sofa and do work around the house or look for a job. The man, while supine, told police that his wife didn't understand that most of his work was mental. The officers suggested marriage counseling and departed. See more here!

--- 5:25 PM - Checking the CB Radio, I find that a bout half of the 40 channels are busy. I'll hang around to see if our Local Group shows up on Channel 23 as they usually do every evening. CB Radio is dead! Long live CB Radio! UPDATE: The Local Group began assembling at 6:00 PM.

--- 7:00 PM - Not long ago, I heard two local Amateur (ham) Radio guys chatting. It all sounded normal until I checked my radio and scanner. One ham was talking on 146.520 MHz simplex, and the other was on the 147.140 MHz repeater. Both must have had their radios on "scan" because neither noticed the mix-up until near the end of their contact.

--- 8:00 PM - The Clay County (Henrietta, Texas) Amateur Radio Club weekly net is on the air and taking check-ins on the 146.800 MHz repeater.
