03-20-2024 - Good Morning. It's 5:30 AM, my coffee is brewing, and the CB Radio is dead quiet. The band has yet to open. Even Channel 6, the "superbowl" of CB Radio, has yet to awaken. This is a perfect time to enjoy local communications. A time when you don't have to battle the high-power skip shooters to get a signal across town. The problem is not that I'm the only one awake at this hour. It's not that I'm the only one in town with a CB Radio. But maybe I'm the only one in town awake and in possession of a CB Radio. Okay, I'm just kidding. I think we need a morning group on CB like the morning group on the Amateur (ham) Radio 160-meter band I listen to occasionally. Why should the hams have all the fun? My coffee is ready!

03-19-2024 - Los Compadres Mexican Grill is now open at the corner of N. Scott and Lincoln. This sounds like a place I need to visit. I wonder if they take orders by CB Radio? Probably not. I see that Club Sip, on East Scott, is up for sale. That's interesting in that I only learned of its existence a week ago.

03-19-2024 - People on social media continue to spread the idea that CB Radio is dead. If that's true, why is my radio jam-packed with signals from one end of the band to the other? Of course, we're at or near the peak of the current solar cycle. Maybe they haven't checked their radios in a few years.

03-18-2024 - In an earlier post, I talked about the noise levels on CB Radio due to us being at or near the peak of the current solar cycle. What I didn't mention is the totally - for me - enjoyable quiet time in the morning before the band "opens up", as they say. That's the time I listen to local trucking and other traffic. I'm not sure when the band closes up for the day, since that event is usually past my bedtime. I know that when I wake up at 5:00 to 5:30 AM, the band is nice and quiet. The bottom line is that there are varying band conditions to suit the skip shooter and the local talker. Those conditions, however, might not happen exactly when you want them to happen.

03-17-2024 - I don't think some of our local Amateur (ham) Radio operators realize how much background sound (TV, radio, etc.) is amplified by their Amateur Radio VHF-UHF transceivers. I'll leave it at that.
