03-05-2024 - I drove past the Crepe Myrtle sculpture in Harold Jones Park. I wonder if I can get it to resonate on any Amateur (ham) Radio HF frequency so I can hunt real Parks on the Air® parks? It must have some purpose in life other than hurting my eyes!
03-05-2024 - I made contact with NZ7Q at White Ridge National Recreation Trail (US-8618) in New Mexico on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program. This was my first contact using the tiny QCX-Mini QRP (low power) CW transceiver. The power output for the contact was 3 watts.

03-05-2024 - The license-free Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS) frequency of 151.880 MHz is active this morning. I'm hearing a one-sided conversation. The side I hear is weak but understandable. Unknown if they're using fixed, mobile, or portable radios or what types of antennas are involved.

03-05-2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, and a new episode of Shogun is on Hulu. I read the book - over 1100 pages - twice - years ago. So far, the series is pretty good. In bed last night, I was reading a 1964 issue of S9 magazine - a CB Radio publication - while listening to an American Radio Relay League code practice broadcast on my old Radio Shack DX-394 shortwave receiver. I bought the DX-394 25 years ago at the Radio Shack in Sikes Senter Mall for around $100. Today, I found a listing for one on eBay for $350. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
03-04-2024 - The "noise" on the 146.680 MHz repeater has been randomly appearing all weekend and into today. It must be some type of noise getting into the system rather than malicious "keying up" of the repeater. I know the repeater owner wouldn't put up with such nonsense. Or, maybe it's another repeater on the same frequency. I don't know why I even mentioned it since I don't use the repeater, but I have to write about something!
03-04-2024 - From the U.S. Federal Communications Commission - The FCC Enforcement Bureau issued a Notice of Illegal Pirate Radio Broadcasting (NIPRB) per its authority from the PIRATE Act to a landowner in Greenville, SC, for allowing illegal broadcasting from their property. //// The FCC Enforcement Bureau issued a Notice of Illegal Pirate Radio Broadcasting (NIPRB) per its authority from the PIRATE Act to a landowner in Maplewood, NJ, for allowing illegal broadcasting from their property.

03-04-2024 - Like Saturday, Sunday was also busy with General Aviation traffic at our local airports. You can hear Kickapoo on 122.700 MHz, Wichita Valley on 122.800 MHz, and Wichita Falls Regional on 119.750/122.950 MHz. Now it's Monday and Walmart (154.570 MHz), Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), the County Jail (155.520 MHz), State Hospital (154.800 MHz) city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), school handheld radios (151.940 MHz), school buses (152.360 MHz), and the BNSF Railroad (160.920 MHz) are all active! 03-04-2024 - Good Morning! My inside temperature yesterday got within one degree of me turning on the air conditioner for a while. Our local Air Evac Lifeteam was busy yesterday. That's good news for the company but also bad news because someone is in a serious medical condition. On the one hand, we need the company to stay busy (profitable) so they are here when we need them. On the other hand, people have to suffer for this to happen. I don't know what to think about that. Maybe a hot cup of Folgers Black Silk coffee will help me process that issue.
03-03-2024 - The Wichita Amateur Radio Society holds a weekly informal net on Sundays at 8:00 PM on the club's 147.140 MHz repeater. All licensed Amateur (ham) Radio operators are invited to check in. Scanner radio enthusiasts are also invited to listen in.
03-03-2024 - In the News: Local news media reports that local loan company was burglarized. A photo showed a hooded invader that could be anyone. Well, anyone except me. In another story, a photo showed someone with what looks like handgun at the window of a car, at a drive-up ATM, possibly asking the occupant for a non-refundable loan, and possibly leaving his fingerprints on the car. It's hard to tell from the photo. Again, not me. PRO TIP: never put your car in "Park" at an ATM. Be ready to go! Oh, and try not to go at night! Then there was a photo of a man and woman wearing the WCSO blue cape for their mugshot. Also in the photo was two large bags containing a white substance, a big pile of cash, and a handgun. I can tell from the photo, neither suspect is me.
03-03-2024 - There is a lot of talk about governments here and there cutting off the Internet and/or taking other actions to curtail public discourse. I'm pleasantly surprised at the number of people suggesting we need to buy CB radios, Amateur (ham) Radio gear, or both. Hopefully, there will not be a tragic or sad need for this, but Hobby Radio can still be a thing.

03-02-2024 - I made contact with K7NWA at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (US-3379) in New Jersey on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
03-03-2024 - I think I just heard my first female BNSF train driver on 160.920 MHz. Apologies if I have misgendered this person. I'll refer to them however they wish to be referred to. For now, I'll say the driver sounded female. This is a good thing. I hear female airline pilots and truck drivers on a regular basis. Now I can add train drivers to the list!
