02-26-2024 - Good Morning! I'm up late this morning, for me, though I know a lot of Wichita Falls might still be sleeping. The wait for my QRP Labs QCX-Mini QRP 20 Meter CW (Morse code) transceiver should be over today. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready and I'll enjoy a cup as I plan the day's radio, and other, activities. It's "radio check" time for our local Air Evac Lifeteam (159.900 MHz) and the City transit buses (453.5375 MHz). Tune in with your scanner radio. UPDATE: The QCX Mini arrived! You can judge its size by the BNC antenna connector. It's really a mini!

02-25-2024 - With the good weather forecast for the coming week, you're not likely to hear any activity on the Skywarn® Storm Spotter repeater at 146.940 MHz. Be sure you have it programmed into your scanner because it won't be too far into Spring before the spotters are activated!

02-25-2024 - The James V. Allred Unit, our very own male, maximum security prison, is most-likekly continuing their weekend visitation operations. Tune in to Allred Unit operations at 153.815 MHz with your scanner radio.

02-25-2024 - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 81. South southwest wind 8 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Tonight: Clear, with a low around 49. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable

02-25-2024 - Good Morning! While my coffee was brewing, I heard the Henrietta 146.680 MHz repeater "key up" again. No audio. Someone, or something, has been keying (kerchunking, in ham lingo) the repeater over the last two or three days. This repeater is one of the Clay County Amateur Radio Club machines. I heard traffic this morning on 151.820 MHz, a frequently used (locally) license-free Multi-Use Radio Service frequency. Frequent use is always good! Last but not least, my QRP Labs QCX-Mini 5-watt QRP (low-power) 20-meter CW (Morse code) transceiver is scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

02-24-2024 - I made contact with KU8T at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge (US-0282) in Illinois on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

02-24-2024 - At about 9:30 this morning I heard Astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli KI5WSL, aboard the International Space Station, talking to a ground-based group on 145.800 MHz. Of course, I could only hear the ISS side of the conversation. I didn't know there was a contact scheduled for today. Keep 145.800 MHz in your scanner radio and you'll hear activity from time to time.

02-24-2024 - I made contact with NR1D at Chatfield Hollow State Park (US-1656) in Connecticut on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

02-24-2024 - I made contact with K3SLH at Nockamixon State Park (US-1391) in Pennsylvania on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

02-24-2024 - I saw a news item about the possibility of a "boom" in the Wichita Falls population. I think it had to do with new businesses coming to town. I didn't watch the video, so I don't know how much of a boom they were talking about. I wonder how much of a boom it would take to throw Kemp Blvd from Kell to Southwest Parkway into lunchtime gridlock?

02-24-2024 - If you've driven on Old Iowa Park Road lately, you might have noticed the orange barrels on the north side of the road from Loop 11 westward. How far west the barrels go I don't know, but the TxDot website shows it to be "under construction" all the way to Iowa Park until the end of the year. I know upgrades are being made, but I don't know exactly what upgrades. Also, FM 1954 from U.S. 281 all the way to Lake Arrowhead is undergoing some type of construction until March 18, 2024.

02-24-2024 - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 75. Light and variable wind becoming south southwest 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 52. South wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts to 20 mph.

02-24-2024 - Good Morning! Saturday has rolled around again and that means Amateur (ham) Radio contests with be "everywhere" on the bands. That includes the CW (Morse code) portions where I want to hunt for more Parks on the Air® stations. I shouldn't complain since I have the weekdays to work the parks while others are at work! My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready so I'll pour a cup and listen to the radio.
