11-28-2023 - From my law enforcement consultant - It was the Gateway Inn, where the Motel 6 is now, on Red River Expressway just north of Maurine Street. A kid, and an accomplice, used an outside "house" phone to call room service and ordered 12 hamburgers. The person taking the call thought it amusing that the kid said he would be in the shower and to just leave it (those 12 hamburgers) outside the door. Well, why not? Maybe he's really hungry. A waiter left the tray outside the appointed door, hid, and watched. One of the kids ran to the tray and lifted the cloth cover only to find dirty dishes. He also noticed a waiter running in his direction. The two outran the waiter and probably went home to some cornflakes.
11-28-2023 - Good Morning! It's 0630 hours and coffee time. I had the CB Radio scanning the 40 channels, but that loud Jamaican station has locked it down on Channel 6. This guy cracks me up. He's says "I'm gone" a dozen times, but he never leaves. I'll switch to Channel 19 to see if anything is happening locally.
11-27-2023 - I'm listening to two local Amateur (ham) Radio operators tonight discussing septic tank maintenance and I'm learning a lot. I don't know what I'll do with the knowledge since I don't have a septic tank. It's still interesting, though.
11-27-2023 - Our local Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter is being dispatched on a mission. You can catch all the action on your scanner at 159.900 MHz.
11-27-2023 - My local picks - Smarty Plants Healing Herb Farm and Joey, The Salsa Guy. You can find both at the Farmer's Market, west edition, at 8th Street and Austin (behind the downtown YMCA) in Wichita Falls.
11-27-2023 - It's 0800 hours and time for our local Air Evac Lifeteam (159.900 MHz) and our city transit buses (453.5375 MHz) to do their radio checks.
11-27-2023 - Good Morning! It's coffee time and I hear "147" in Jamaica on CB Radio Channel 6 already. As I've probably mentioned before, I've heard this guy "cut the lips off" stations here in Wichita Falls. That's how strong he is. It's "back to school" after the Thanksgiving break and the school buses are up and running, doing their part. I'm sure all those kids are super excited to get back to school! For some, sadly, it might be the only place they get breakfast and a decent lunch. Tune in to the school buses at 152.360 MHz on your scanner.
11-26-2023 - At 2000 hours this evening, I heard two Spanish-speaking guys on 146.460 MHz, a two-meter Amateur (ham) Radio frequency. It was a short exchange and I didn't hear any call signs. I think they were passing through town on the highway. Also, it's time for the Wichita Amateur Radio Society weekly informal net. You can hear the net on the 147.140 MHz repeater. Check in if you're a ham, or listen on your scanner.
11-26-2023 - It's 1730 hours and I hear several members of the Local Group on CB Radio Channel 23. I'm not going to monitor long because I'm watching the Bills vs the Referees. Oops. I mean the Bills vs the Eagles.

11-26-2023 - It's 0730 hours and I hear traffic on 151.820 MHz. This frequency is one of five in the license-free Multi-Use Radio Service. This is a very "unused" radio service here in Wichita Falls. We need more users!
11-26-2023 - Good Morning! It's 0600 hours and the coffee is brewing. The radios are a little quiet yet. The CB Radio band is trying to open up, but I think it needs another half-hour or so. I'll be monitoring the other usual suspects - Walmart (154.570 MHz), the Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), the County Jail (155.520 MHz), the State Hospital (154.800 MHz) the city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), school handheld radios (151.940 MHz), and the school buses (152.360 MHz). Okay, no school today but I'll include it for information purposes. Tune in with your scanner and join the fun.
11-25-2023 - The I-44 Walmart had some unruly customers who were asked to leave the store. I didn't hear any further commotion on the radio, so maybe they left quietly. Tune in to local Walmart stores at 154.570 MHz on your scanner.
11-25-2023 - The CB Radio has been wild all day with traffic from one end of the band to the other. It's going to be like that for the next several years. This is good news for DX'ers (skip shooters) but not so good news for truckers and those who like quiet conditions for local communications. It is what it is.
11-25-2023 - Should I be surprised that the second edition of Grandy's has closed its doors? Well, I'm not. As far as I can remember, I've only visited a Grandy's once and that was 20 years ago in Grapevine. It was okay. I never visited our first Grandy's on Kemp or the recently closed version on McNiel. In my opinion, the north side of Wichita Falls could use a good catfish restaurant. One with a big fireplace like the burned-to-the-ground Uncle Lynn's.

11-25-2023 - From my corrections consultant - I was listening to the Allred Unit on my scanner when I was reminded of the time an offender janitor (SSI) was busted for fishing disciplinary cases out of the night drop box and selling them back to the offenders named therein.
11-25-2023 - In the 1980s, a "gentleman's club" opened up in the southeast part of town. A group of concerned citizens would check the parking lot and photograph vehicles and license plates. I guess this was an attempt to shame the patrons. I don't know how that turned out.
11-25-2023 - From my corrections consultant - Several decades ago, the Allred Unit assigned every supervisor and department head with a 4-digit radio call sign. If you were new, or even semi-new, you had to have a cheat-sheet to keep up with who was who. Then, someone came up with the idea of simply calling the person by name rather than some arbitrarily assigned number. Brilliant! Really! Officer Sharp to Captain Crotchpheasant is a lot easier.
11-25-2023 - There are several *CW (Morse code) contests happening across the Amateur (ham) Radio HF bands this weekend. I'll let the dits and dahs run while I watch a little college football. *I'm in Texas so I feel like I have to note that, for purposes of this website, CW means Morse code. If I don't clarify, line dancing might break out.
