11-29-2024 - 6:45 AM - Good Morning! It's Friday, and there's more football with the Chiefs and the Raiders this afternoon. The Cowboys did OK yesterday, but they'll have to win the rest of their games to avoid an embarrassing season. That's just my opinion. We're in for another cool day, but it's that time of the year! I got my outside Christmas light put out last night. It's a red bulb and green bulb in the front porch light using a "Y" splitter. My coffee is ready.

11-28-2024 - 5:40 AM - Good Morning! It's Thanksgiving Day! I'm not a rabid football fan, but I enjoy the game, and I'll be watching the games today. As usual, I have the Yaesu 857D on the CW (Morse code) portion of the 40-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band, getting my morning CW recharge. Speaking of Thanksgiving, I wonder if the Allred Unit inmates still get an extra tray with their noon meal. In the past, as they went through the chow line, they got a paper tray loaded with food and wrapped in cellophane that they could take back to their house. Taking food out of the chow hall is prohibited, except on those special days. Tune in to the Allred Unit at 153.815 MHz on your scanner radio. My coffee is ready.
11-27-2024 - As I shut down the operation tonight, I have accumulated 424 parks in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program. I've worked state or federal parks in all U.S. states except Alaska and Hawaii. As I mentioned before, I might never get them. Stations in parks operate relatively low power with simple antennas. I'm in North Texas with low power (5 - 35 watts) and a ground plane antenna. Conditions would have to be almost perfect for a contact. I haven't even heard parks in those two states in the last six months. I'm sure I've worked Alaska and Hawaii on voice - single sideband - years ago. I'd have to check my DX QSL cards buried somewhere. As far as POTA, they might remain elusive. That's okay. I'm not seeking awards.
11-27-2024 - From the U.S. Federal Communications Commission - Consumer Advisory: Federal Communications Commission Warns Consumers About Websites Advertising the Affordable Connectivity Program. Consumers shopping for new devices and considering making changes to their existing home or mobile broadband service plans this holiday season may find that some internet service providers have not updated their websites and other marketing materials to reflect that the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and its monthly discount on broadband services ended on June 1, 2024. Some provider websites even continue to collect personal information from consumers seeking enrollment in ACP. The FCC and the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), the ACP program administrator, have reminded providers that failing to accurately update websites and materials to reflect that the ACP has ended may violate the Commissions ACP rules that prohibit providers from engaging in false or misleading advertising of the ACP
