11-01-2024 - Good Morning!! It's the first day of November, and election day is almost upon us. We have an 80%-90% chance of rain tonight through Monday. That's a good start, but we need more. I have limited my Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® activities to the 20-meter band, but I'm probably going to expand that effort to include the 40-meter band. In other news, there is a rumor that Omar from OMARC, the One-Man Amateur (ham) Radio Club, is trying to buy the Newby-McMahon Building, aka the World's Littlest Skyscraper. He plans to use it as a club headquarters and full-time residence. I'll be monitoring this situation. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!
10-31-2024 - 7:00 PM - Today, at the Wichita Falls Man HQ, it was yard work and grocery shopping. The only radioing was casual listening. No contacts. The local scanner frequencies were busy, but that was it.

10-31-2024 - Local news outlets reported on the NTSB investigation of the fatal airplane crash that took the lives of a local contractor and his wife two years ago. I read the detailed report and the condensed version. The condensed version stated that the pilot flew into Instrument Meteorological Conditions with only four hours of instrument training. Having held a Commercial Pilot Certificate, Instrument Rating, Multi-Engine Rating, and Flight Instructor and Instrument Instructor ratings, the condensed version was all I needed to see. I don't mean to sound insensitive, but that was an unforgiving situation. Of course, your opinion might vary.

At 10:10 PM last night, the Wichita Falls area Amateur (ham) Radio storm spotters issued a weather update on the 146.940 MHz repeater due to thunderstorms passing over the area. I heard one spotter out checking north of town, but I don't think an actual net was activated. We got a sprinkle on the north side of town. My coffee is ready.
