10-11-2024 - Good Morning! I have nothing important on the schedule for today. I'll grab another Parks on the Air® station if I can. As of this morning, I have 365 parks in the log. Tomorrow, it's a trip to the 8th & Austin location of the Wichita Falls Farmers Market for salsa. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!

A Case of Hobby Radio Antenna Envy in Wichita Falls

10-10-2024 - I'm waiting for the start of Thursday Night Football. I don't know which I dislike the most, the player interviews or a Kevin Hart commercial. Players and reporters have been recycling the same questions and answers since there was such a thing as players and reporters. As for Kevin Hart, he just needs to sit down and shut up!

10-10-2024 - At 4:50 PM, I hear a scratchy voice on 437.800 MHz, the downlink frequency for the Amateur (ham) Radio repeater aboard the International Space Station. I'm listening on a Bearcat scanner with a discone antenna in the attic. I was probably on the edge of the radio footprint for just a few seconds. Maybe next time! I remember hearing Owen Garriot, W5LFL, the first "Ham in Space", on a scanner with just the set-mounted telescoping antenna. That was in 1983.

10-10-2024 - At least one news report says North Texas might see the "Northern Lights" tonight due to the ongoing geomagnetic storm. That would be nice. I haven't seen the aurora from Wichita Falls since 1989.

10-10-2024 - I made contact with N7BBQ at Big Creek State Park (US-2281) in Iowa 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
