10-06-2024 - Just a reminder that there is an active local group on CB Radio, and they meet on Channel 23 at 5:30 PM most evenings. Tune in if you're interested. CB Radio is dead! Long live CB Radio!

10-06-2024 - Amateur (ham) Radio continues to get a lot of exposure on X, formerly known as Twitter, as people learn of "hams" responding to Hurricane Helene. I see plenty of "I need to get a Ham Radio" or "I need to get a CB Radio" posts. Baofengs are recommended a lot. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, a bad thing, or just a thing. Time will tell.

10-06-2024 - 5:10 AM - Good Morning! It's Simplex Sunday, a day to give those Amateur Radio repeaters a break if possible. Flex those simplex muscles. It's like giving your generator a regular run. Use the more inclusive two-meter FM simplex. Analog, please! GMRS users, you can play, too! For now, I'm listening to Morse code on the 30-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band while I enjoy my first cup of Folgers Black Silk coffee.

10-05-2024 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning. According to news reports, Wichita Falls' first Texas Yum Fest will happen at the "Pickleball Hanger" this weekend. There will be food trucks and other vendors. The address is 5002 Henry S. Grace Freeway. I checked the address on Google Maps, and it is a big building. I have to wonder, did they mean hangar instead of hanger? In sports, it looks like the Legacy Leopards got clawed again. It's Saturday, and there will be a lot of contesting across the bands. The U.S. Parks on the Air® spotter page is empty, at least for 20 meters. The Montague County Simplex Net happens this morning at 9 AM on 147.500 MHz. You'll need an outside antenna to check in or listen. My coffee is ready as I wake up to Morse code on the 40-meter band.
