09-12-2024 - Good Morning! Today is Thursday the 12th. You know what that means? Yes, tomorrow is Friday the 13th. Are you ready? It looks like Summer might be over. Now I can think about some Amateur (ham) Radio outings to our local parks. Should I work QRP (low power) CW (Morse code), make local contacts on 2-meter FM simplex, or both? That will give me something to ponder as I enjoy my first cup of coffee.

09-11-2024 - I was in Dallas today. With business completed, I plugged the "Texas School Book Depository" into my GPS, drove to that location, saw the famous building, the grassy knoll, and drove over the "X" on the street that marked the spot where JFK was shot. Now, I'm back in good old Wichita Falls listening to Amateur (ham) Radio.

09-11-2024 - Good Morning! I had 40-meter Morse code running on the bedside Radio Shack DX-394 receiver while reading my newly-received CQ Ghost Ship book last night. I think I got five pages in before the book bounced off my chest and hit the floor. That's always a sign that it's time to turn out the light and go to sleep. It's not that the book wasn't interesting, but the 4 hours of sleep the night before caught up with me. My Parks on the Air® hunter count is up to 339 this morning. I have 40-meter CW (Morse code) running on the Yaesu 857D while my coffee is brewing. For me, there's no such thing as too much "receive" practice.

Briggs & Stratton Generator

09-10-2024 - I made contact with K2JVB at Hither Hills State Park (US-2076) in New York on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

09-09-2024 - Not much Ham Radio today. I did have a nice contact with a local ham on 146.520 MHz FM simplex. My 1960 copy of CQ Ghost Ship by Walker A. Tompkins, K6ATX, arrived today. The dust cover is a little worn, but that's okay. I first read this book, along with Tompkins' other titles, SOS at Midnight, Grand canyon QSO, and DX Brings Danger, in 1966 in the 8th grade. I might start reading it tonight. But first, I'm watching Field of Dreams on Netflix in memory of James Earl Jones. I'll catch some Parks on the Air® tomorrow. Hopefully!
