09-04-2024 - Someone on X, formerly known as Twitter, posted some pics of The Loft, the new restaurant above Picker's Universe at 10th & Indiana. The photo showed a harpsichord, and the poster said it was in use while they dined. From the pics, I see Chef Brandy Belk, formerly of Suga B's at the Wichita Falls Regional Airport, is the pastry chef. I'll put The Loft on my "to do" list!

09-04-2024 - Good Morning! It looks a little wet outside this morning. I guess we got a sprinkle sometime during the night. We have one more chance for rain today, then nothing for the rest of the week. Our lakes didn't make the gains I hoped for, but they didn't lose much, if any, during our intermittent showers. While we might not get rain this coming week, our temperatures will be milder. My coffee is ready!

09-03-2024 - I made contact with KD9UDV at Kil-So-Quah State Recreation Area (US-5683) in Indiana on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

09-03-2024 - I made contact with KG8CO at Hayes State Park (US-1504) in Michigan on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

09-03-2024 - In another flashback, I recall the Heath SB 1400 HF transceiver. As far as I could tell, it was almost a copy of the Yaesu 747GX. I bought it in 1991 or 1992 and, for a time, used it in my next digital venture, Packet Radio. I don't remember the make and model of the Terminal Node Controller (TNC) I used. I remember how unexciting it was to have a conversation printed on the computer screen. My Packet Radio days didn't last long. I don't blame Amateur Radio for the boredom. I'm bored by many adventures. I gave up skydiving because I had to drive 30 miles to make those jumps. A big "selling point" in Amateur radio was that I didn't have to leave home to do it. Packet Radio, however, just wasn't for me. I never ventured into digital communications again. I remain a simple VHF simplex and analog voice guy. I do CW (Morse code). Some would call that the original digital, but that's my digital limit. There is a definite need for Amateur Radio digital communications. I'm just not involved in any activity where it is needed.

09-03-2024 - I had a flashback of my early Amateur (ham) Radio days (1984) and my powerful Commodore 64 computer running someone's RTTY (Radio teletype) program through whatever two-meter rig I had at the time. I had the Commodore 1541 disk drive and the Commodore Datasette (cassette) drive. I kept track of it all on a green-screen monitor. I was ready for RTTY action. A local ham - now a silent key - maintained an RTTY bulletin board system on one of his VHF repeaters. I don't remember any local simplex RTTY activity at the time. It all seemed fun at the time, but it wasn't long before the local infrastructure thing began to bug me. To have fun, I had to use another ham's equipment. Before long, I was off of local RTTY. I never made the jump to HF RTTY. The infrastructure thing still bugs me to this day, and that's one reason I'm a "my antenna to your antenna" guy. I wish I still had the Commodore gear!

09-03-2024 - I made contact with K2JVB at Montauk Point State Park (US-2109) in New York on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

09-03-2024 - The Clay County Amateur Radio Club holds a weekly informal net on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. As far as I know, all licensed Amateur (ham) Radio operators are invited to check in. Of course, scanner radio enthusiasts can also tune in.
