07-20-2023 - It's coffee time! The scanner yields the usual traffic from the Allred Unit and Walmart is starting to come alive. I'm still anxiously awaiting the start of school because school bus radio traffic alone can be worth the cost of a scanner radio! School buses are in the news with the City of Wichita Falls considering taking over that program. If that happens, will the radio system change to lock us out of more communications? When I say "us", I mean the owners of cheap, analog scanners! Time will tell.

07-19-2023 - Channel 38 LSB is alive tonight. I hear 132 in Ohio, 54 in North Carolina, 181 in Illinois, and plenty of others.

07-19-2023 - Speaking of train tracks, our law enforcement consultant recalls the night a man was found passed out across one of the two sets of train tracks behind what was then the Railroad Inn at Iowa Park Road and North Broadway. The incident was reported by a train driver going by on the other tracks! Unknown if the man passed out there or was helped there by others.

07-19-2023 - Headines: WFPD investigating after body found near train tracks, City View admins appear in court, Police arrest alleged steak burglar inside McBride’s, Animal hoarder held without bond in Wichita County.

07-19-2023 - According to news reports, the WFPD caught a burglar inside McBride's Steakhouse on Scott Avenue early Tuesday morning. According to our law enforcement consultant, someone has to buy donuts for the shift!

07-19-2023 - The "Evening Crew" is live and in living color on CB Radio Channel 23. The group sounds a little larger than last night's group. They would probably like to hear from you if you have a CB Radio.

07-19-2023 - From my corrections consultant: A former Allred Warden decided that all 3,700+ offender mattresses would run through the Unit's X-ray parcel scanners. The idea was to locate contraband. A good idea except for the fact that the mattresses are longer than the X-ray chamber. This means both protective curtains - entry and exit - are open at some point during each X-ray cycle. Guess who's pushing mattresses in and pulling them out - all while X-rays are being emitted? Offenders! They probably didn't have a clue. Tune in to Allred Unit operations at 153.815 MHz on your scanner.

07-19-2023 - The Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter just flew by. You can monitor their daily operations at 159.900 MHz on your scanner.

07-18-2023 - Political discourse is happening live on CB Radio Channel 40 LSB. Everyone has a good signal with almost no noise. Time to spin the dial.

07-18-2023 - It's time for the Evening Crew to light up CB Radio Channel 23 as they do every evening. A few people are showing up, just a few minutes late. It was a light showing last night. Let's see what tonight brings.

07-18-2023 - There's traffic at both Kickapoo Airport (122.700 MHz) and Wichita Valley Airport (122.800 MHz) this morning. I'm sure these folks are trying to get in flight time before the air gets hot and bumpy this afternoon. Also, our local transit buses just conducted their morning roll call on 453.5375 MHz.

07-18-2023 - I hear a couple of local truckers chatting on Channel 19 as I enjoy my first cup of coffee. It's going to be another blistering hot day so I think I'll stay inside and play with radios.

07-17-2023 - I'm kicked back with a cold, refreshing Coke Zero and listening in on the wild mix of stations on Channel 38 LSB. I hear 105 in Indiana, 177 in Iowa, 502 in Florida, and 128 in Illinois, all with booming signals into North Texas. Lots of other stations are down in the noise.

07-16-2023 - The band is very quiet this evening, just as it was last night. Smokey reports on Channel 19 are about the only thing going on right now. It is what it is. I'll resume in the morning.

07-16-2023 - The "Evening Crew" (my name for them) is on the air. They meet daily at 1730 (5:30 PM) on Channel 23. Nice bunch of guys.

07-16-2023 - The CB band is alive from one end to the other, at least in Texas. Someone, with a strong signal, is giving a political speech on Channel 19. I'm sure the truckers are happy. Someone on Channel 11 thinks they have an amplifier but what they have is a splatter box.

07-16-2023 - Thunderstorms are about to pass over the city in just a few minutes. I'll unplug for the duration. I like my eggs fried, but not my radios.
