01-30-2026 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Friday, and the snow and ice continue to melt away. Also, the International Space Station will make another visible pass over the city this evening. Listen for Amateur (ham) Radio communications from the ISS on your scanner radio. On a related note, the North Central Texas Simplex Net will begin at 8:00 PM on 146.580 MHz. You'll need a good outside antenna to hear them on your scanner radio. The University Kiwanis 70th Annual Pancake Festival happens tomorrow, 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM at the Birdwell Agricultural Center, 111 N. Burnett. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready, and Morse code is running in the background.

--- 5:45 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 45. Calm wind becoming north northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. North northeast wind 6 to 10 mph.

--- 6:00 AM - In the News - WF house fire claims lives of elderly couple, Verdict reached in Canada child sex crimes trial, Wichita County Meals on Wheels seeks volunteers, Boil order issued for City of Scotland and surrounding rural areas.

--- 6:30 AM - Tomorrow, the high temperature is forecast to be 30 degrees. That eliminates any need for me to visit the Farmers' Market. I really had no plans to go, but my wife might decide she wants some salsa from a certain vendor. I'll just have to keep her mind off salsa. How about some leftover Little Caesars pizza?

--- 7:30 AM - At the River Bend Nature Center, there is an event called Sip N Science: Bluebirds... not Blue Birds! From the description, it appears to be about supporting the local Bluebird population. The announcement didn’t describe the “Sip” portion of the title, but it did say that attendance was limited to those age 21 and over. I guess that’s a hint. It happens this evening, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, at the River Bend Nature Center, 2200 Third Street, 940-767-0843.

--- 7:45 AM - Wichita Falls ISD schools are out again today. I’m sure the kids are happy as can be, but some might be crying when those days get tacked on to the end of the school year.

--- 1:00 PM - Driving along Old Iowa Park Road the last few days, I’ve been enjoying all the train car graffiti on display. The recent showing is amplified by the fact that the artwork is on those huge “car hauler” cars, or whatever they're called. To the graffiti artists (criminal mischief suspects), these are just giant canvases.

--- 2:15 PM - On my trips back home from the DFW Metromess, I sometimes stop at the In-N-Out Burger across from the Texas Motor Speedway. I was thinking that, on my next trip, I might stop at Catfish O'Harlies (formerly Catfish Charlies; the sale must have required a name change) on the north side of Decatur for a sit-down meal. I was checking their hours when I saw this in a review: "I'M GONNA BE HONEST, THE COLESLAW WASN'T LIKE MY MOMMA MAKES, BUT SHE NEVER COULD COOK WORTH A DAMN.”

--- 4:35 PM - I contacted a station at Campbell's Island State Park (US-0983) in Illinois on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

--- 7:00 PM - It wasn't too long ago when I heard someone at the Post Office ask for a book of stamps. When is the last time anyone saw a book of stamps? Quite some time, I would think.

01-29-2026 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Thursday. Check out the Scanner Radio Frequencies & Radio Activities for Wichita Falls, Texas. There is plenty of scheduled and non-scheduled Hobby Radio communications in the area to be heard. One of those events is a pass of the International Space Station over the Wichita Falls area. Check the schedule at International Space Station Passes Over Wichita Falls. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!

---5:15 NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 44. South southwest wind 11 to 16 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 21. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light northwest after midnight.

--- 5:45 AM - From Google AI Overview: The medical term for the sound your stomach makes is borborygmus (plural: borborygmi). These sounds are caused by the movement of food, liquid, and gas through the intestines, often described as growling or rumbling. While common when hungry, they can occur anytime as part of normal digestion.

--- 2:00 PM - I had a routine procedure at the Wichita Falls Endoscopy Center today. After that, I visited Natural Grocers, The Pecan Shed, and Little Caesars Pizza before returning home. At home, and a few slices of pizza later, I’m watching Richard Musgrave-Evans on YouTune do his oil painting and bushcraft thing. I might get some radioing in sometime today. After not having to drip the faucets last night, it looks like that process will be in order for the next few nights.
