01-28-2026 - 5:45 AM - Good Morning. It's Wednesday. Daytime temperatures will improve somewhat over the next few days, but nighttime temperatures will remain in the faucet-dripping range. The streets continue to improve. No one should be trapped in their homes. If they are, I hope they have a scanner radio for their edification and enjoyment. My Folgers Black Silk Coffee is ready.
--- 6:00 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Areas of dense freezing fog before noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. South wind 6 to 8 mph.
--- 6:15 AM - Some Wichita Falls radio scanning targets: Walmart (154.570 MHz), Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), Wichita County Jail (155.520 MHz), State Hospital (154.800 MHz) city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), WFISD school buses (152.360 MHz), school handheld radios (151.940 MHz), Wichita Valley Airport (122.800 MHz), Kickapoo Airport (122.700 MHz), Wichita Falls Regional Airport / SAFB (119.750 & 122.950 MHz), and the BNSF Railroad (160.920 MHz). Find more local frequencies here!
--- 7:00 AM - There exist only about a dozen operational "tower" restaurants in the United States. I haven't done it yet, but on my next tower visit, I'd like to take along a small handheld scanner radio with a short "rubber duck" antenna and an inconspicuous earbud-type earphone, and listen to the city while I await my food order. I wouldn't be ignoring anyone because this would be a solo trip. If there is a separate observation deck, such as the one at the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio, I might try a 2-meter simplex contact with a handheld radio, assuming I happen to own one. I'm not known as a big handheld radio user, since I don't use repeaters. I used to carry one on my morning walks for simplex contacts.
--- 10:30 AM - The year was 1975. I was stationed at Savanna Army Depot in Illinois. For some unknown reason, I was watching Sesame Street. I'm glad I was, because I heard Count von Count declare that he was the greatest counter since Formica! It's not bragging if you can do it!
--- 1:00 PM - I just saw the trailer for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. What a mess!

01-27-2026 - 5:45 AM - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, and the Clay County Amateur Radio Club conducts a weekly Skywarn® practice net at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. Tune in with your scanner radio! There are still many local government, medical, educational, and other businesses closed today due to the snow. You can check "Texoma's Home Page" (KFDX Channel 3) for a complete list. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
--- 6:00 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. South southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Tonight: Patchy freezing fog after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. Light north northwest wind.
--- 7:00 AM - I love the sound of Morse code in the morning. A second cup of CB Radio-powered (I'm using a CB Radio-themed cup) Folgers Black Silk coffee adds to the joy!
--- 10:30 AM - In the news - Burk man accused of defrauding veteran organizations, Boy airlifted after sled accident at Lake Wichita, Argument over cigarettes leads to arrest, police.
-- 6:00 PM - Some of the Local Group guys are on the air on CB Radio Channel 23. One thing I've noticed is the wide variation of audio characteristics among the group. The older my ears get, the harder it is to understand a couple of the guys. They all understand each other, so it's my ears, not their equipment. That's life in the big city.
