01-10-2026 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Saturday, and the Wichita Falls Farmers Market would like to see you today. That goes for both the 8th & Ohio and 8th and Austin locations. Doors open at 9:00 AM. Some weekend Wichita Falls radio scanning targets: Walmart (154.570 MHz), Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), Wichita County Jail (155.520 MHz), State Hospital (154.800 MHz) city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), Wichita Valley Airport (122.800 MHz), Kickapoo Airport (122.700 MHz), Wichita Falls Regional Airport / SAFB (119.750 & 122.950 MHz), and the BNSF Railroad (160.920 MHz). Get more scanning targets here! My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 5:45 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 53. North northwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Tonight: Clear, with a low around 31. West wind around 6 mph.

--- 6:00 AM - In the news - Huskey Hat Company celebrates 50 years of success, City of WF responds to federal age discrimination suit, Burk man jailed for Clay Co. child grooming charges.

--- 7:45 AM - I'm on my second cup of coffee, and the Morse code is flowing on the 30-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band. I don't work the 30-meter band, but it's the only place I'm finding strong Morse code signals at the moment. The 20-meter band, my usual hangout, is still asleep.

--- 6:30 PM - I didn’t do any active radioing today, only listening. Instead, I watched movies and football. Tomorrow will probably be the same. There wasn't much amateur (ham) Radio traffic. There are CW (Morse code) contests scattered about the Amateur (ham) Radio HF bands. I didn't check for sideband activity. As I write this, the Local Group is active on CB Radio Channel 23.

01-09-2025 - 5:15 AM - Good Morning! It's Friday! Wichita County, Texas (Wichita Falls, Burkburnett, Iowa Park, and Electra, et al), population 129,350, has about 600 licensed Amateur (ham) Radio Operators in the FCC database. With a 10-year term, this number includes some who have passed away. Some Wichita Falls radio scanning targets: Walmart (154.570 MHz), Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), Wichita County Jail (155.520 MHz), State Hospital (154.800 MHz) city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), WFISD school buses (152.360 MHz), school handheld radios (151.940 MHz), Wichita Valley Airport (122.800 MHz), Kickapoo Airport (122.700 MHz), Wichita Falls Regional Airport / SAFB (119.750 & 122.950 MHz), and the BNSF Railroad (160.920 MHz). Find more local frequencies here! My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 5:30 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 65. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 34. North northwest wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

--- 5:45 AM - In the news - Two former WFPD officers under criminal investigation, Wichita Falls police investigate assault with weapon incident on Eastside, Progress report on $14 million McNeil Elementary School project.

--- 9:05 AM - I contacted a station at Gibson County State Fishing Lake (US-12715) in Tennessee on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

--- 2:00 PM - The Family Radio Service frequencies get a decent workout on the north side of town. I can't speak for other areas. I think some schools might be using FRS radios. I don't know for sure, and I don't know if this is an official thing, or if some teachers have purchased these inexpensive radios because they make their lives easier. More investigation is required! Get a scanner radio and tune in. Or, get some FRS radios and enjoy the fun and utility.

--- 6:15 PM - I heard a few guys from the Local Group on CB Radio Channel 23 this evening. Also, the Amateur (ham) Radio simplex frequency of 146.520 MHz and the Wichita Amateur Radio Society repeater on 147.140 MHz were busy today.

--- 9:00 PM - The Amateur (ham) Radio simplex frequency of 146.550 MHz was busy this evening with a "round table" discussion of radio topics. Tune in with your scanner radio. I learn something new every day listening to these guys!
