01-06-2026 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, and the Clay County Amateur Radio Club will hold its weekly net tonight at 8:00 PM on the club's 146.800 MHz repeater. You can listen in on your scanner radio. I found some recent mentions of the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame's disappearance. If I were a fan, I’d probably want to know what happened, but I’m not. I visited when it first opened in the “Big Blue” building downtown. I was impressed. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 5:15 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73. West northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 42. Light and variable wind.

--- 6:30 AM - The Wichita Falls ISD school buses are up and running again after the Christmas break. Tune in to 152.360 MHz with your scanner radio. I think you'll find it time well spent.

--- 8:15 AM - At the Iron Horse Pub - The Notorious Cool Arrows - Wednesday, January 7, 2026 - Doors 7:00pm - Showtime 7:30pm - 615 8th Street

--- 9:15 AM - The Wichita County Jr Livestock Show runs from January 6 @ 8:00 am - January 10 @ 7:00 pm at the JS Birdwell Agricultural Center.

--- 12:30 PM - The United Supermarket on Old Iowa Park Road sometimes uses mannequins at the self-checkout. They don't move. They don't greet you when you come or go. They don't even look at you. They could at least fake an interest in the company they work for.

--- 12:45 PM - Headline seen at Texoma's Home Page (KFDX): "Northwest Texas Field and Stream Association is hosting a trap shooting certification course for kids ages 8 to 18." I didn't know there was such a thing as a certified skeet shooter. It's not like people actually hire them.

01-05-2025 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Monday, and I'm starting the day by listening to two Amateur (ham) Radio Operators conversing by Morse code on the 40-meter band. It's relaxing if you don't imagine the sounds to be a medical monitor going crazy. In reality, it's like music to me. The heterodynes of mass quantities of AM signals colliding on CB Radio Channel 19 are also music to my ears. More important is the fact that my Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!

--- 5:15 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 79. South southwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 46. West southwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

--- 5:45 AM - Do you remember the S&H Green Stamps redemption center at 1612 9th Street? Many stores handed out Green Stamps with every purchase. You pasted them into a book and could trade them for products at the redemption center. S& H stood for Sperry & Hutchinson. According to Wikipedia, S&H operated from 1896 until the late 1980s.

--- 6:00 AM - Back in the mid-1960s, at a “five and dime” store, I selected a slingshot and took it to the cashier. The slingshot had no price tag, and the young female cashier held it up and yelled, "Hey Joe, how much is this n****r shooter?" Almost two decades later, I was in a gun store in Wichita Falls where an employee was showing a customer a flashlight. He described that particular flashlight as being practically indestructible, unless you hit a n****r over the head with it. In the mid-1990s, I was in a well-known local eatery when an elderly Black man came in. The head waitress seated him and then told another waitress “The n****r wants some milk. Business as usual in Wichita Falls, Texas.

--- 9:30 AM - I'm having a crazy time with Lowe's and my Briggs & Stratton generator order. I might have mentioned in an earlier post that the generator I ordered arrived damaged. The plastic outer housing was cracked. There was also a heavy smell of gasoline. The plastic wrapping was slick with motor oil in several places. After talking with Lowe's HQ to inquire why the replacement unit had not been shipped, it seems they thought all I wanted was the new outer housing and didn't know how to process it since they aren't in the generator parts business. Now, I'm waiting on a call or email with a decision on whether they will ship a new unit and pick up the damaged one, or give me a refund and pick up the damaged one. I'll just have to wait and see.

--- 2:30 PM - In the news - Wichita Falls Chamber appoints new CEO Cindy Shafer, Wichita Falls man accused in series of thefts, Wichita Falls bridal market: Top vendors, fashion show, Retired Air Force Major General to run for Wichita County Judge.

--- 6:00 PM - The Local Group is active on CB Radio Channel 23. I'll listen in while I watch Ice Station Zebra on Tubi. I don't think I’ve ever seen this 1968 movie. If I have, I forgot about it.
