01-04-2026 - Good Morning! It's Sunday, and the Wichita Amateur Radio Society will hold its weekly informal net tonight on the club's 147.140 MHz repeater. Tune in with your scanner radio. Lately, I haven’t heard the Local Group on CB Radio Channel 23, and that’s because by the time I think of them, they have ended their regular session. Maybe I’ll catch them this evening. Tune in if you have a CB Radio or shortwave radio. They usually show up between 5:50 PM and 6:00 PM. If you're waiting in line at Starbucks at Kemp and Kell, leave now and drive across the street to Frank & Joe's coffee in Parker Square. You can go to Starbucks tomorrow. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
--- 5:30 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. Light southeast wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Tonight: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 48. South wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
--- 7:30 AM - There is a lot of activity on 151.820 MHz this morning. That is a frequency in the license-free, 5-channel Multi-Use Radio Service. Local Walmart stores use 154.570 and 154.600 MHz. Wichita Falls schools use 151.940 MHz on their handheld radios. Tune in with your scanner radio. At my location, I don't hear any traffic on the remaining frequency of 151.880 MHz. But I don't monitor 24/7.

01-03-2026 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Saturday. The Wichita Falls Farmers Markets - both the 8th & Ohio and 8th & Austin locations - will be open today. The nice weather should bring good crowds. I'm not sure if I'll be attending. If I do, it will be to get some salsa. There are a couple of NFL games on today. Some local Amateur (ham) Radio Operators will probably meet for breakfast at Pioneer #3 at 8:00 this morning. If you have questions about Amateur Radio, I bet they have answers. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!
--- 5:15 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 62. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 36. Light and variable wind.
--- 5:30 AM - Some weekend Wichita Falls radio scanning targets: Walmart (154.570 MHz), Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), Wichita County Jail (155.520 MHz), State Hospital (154.800 MHz) city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), Wichita Valley Airport (122.800 MHz), Kickapoo Airport (122.700 MHz), Wichita Falls Regional Airport / SAFB (119.750 & 122.950 MHz), and the BNSF Railroad (160.920 MHz). Get more scanning targets here!
--- 7:15 AM - Several of the license-free Multi-Use Radio Service frequencies are in use this morning. I think this service is slowly catching on in Wichita Falls. This is a good thing.
--- 8:30 AM - I stopped by the fantastic Tommy's Donuts on Old Iowa Park Road this morning for some sausage & egg burritos and apple fritters. The donuts on display were tempting!
--- 10:00 AM - The CB Radio is busy across the band. Our local scanner radio targets are also busy. It's a weekend, so the Allred Unit at 153.815 MHz might be a little busier due to visitation activities. I've heard a little chatter on the local 147.140 MHz Amateur (ham) Radio repeater. Let's see what the day brings.
--- 10:15 AM - Tonight at the Iron Horse Pub, 615 8th Street - Giant Pilot, Blood and Rust, and special guests The Innocence. Doors open at 8:30 PM. The show starts at 9:30 PM.
--- 10:30 AM - In the news - Volunteers needed for 70th annual Pancake Festival, Traffic stop leads to drug bust and arrest in WF, Anthony Patterson still fighting to overturn trafficking, child sex crimes conviction, FFA members showcase animal care skills at livestock show.
