12-27-2025 - 6:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Saturday, and the Montague County Simplex Net will begin at 9:00 AM on 147.500 MHz. You'll need a good (high) antenna to hear them from Wichita Falls. I might tune in to a few college football games today. The Farmers Market (8th & Ohio and 8th and Austin locations) will be open fro 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM today. Here's a few more things to do around the City. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!

--- 6:15 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. South southwest wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

--- 7:30 AM - You know a town is small when you search for it on “X” (formerly known as Twitter), and you get page after page of nothing but school sports. I guess that’s better than stabbings and shootings.

--- 9:30 AM - Amateur (ham) Radio club members, here’s a test: Stand on a busy street corner, or outside a shopping mall, and ask people if they’ve heard of your club by name. When you tire of hearing “No,” create a club position called Director of Marketing!

12-26-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Friday. The scanner radio, other than the prison (153.815 MHz), is pretty quiet right now. That will change over the next hour. The CB Radio is equally quiet, for now. I have nothing on the schedule for today. Right now, my Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 6:00 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 83. West southwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. South wind 5 to 8 mph.

--- 7:30 AM - We have some VHF "tropospheric ducting" going on, as I can hear a couple of distant repeaters not usually heard in Wichita Falls under normal conditions. Many Amateur (ham) Radio Operators take advantage of these "band openings", especially those operating simplex (direct, no repeater).

--- 11:30 AM -I'm looking for some Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® stations to work on 20 meters, but the band seems to be taking a nap right now. Before you suggest that I check the other bands, I only work 20 meters. Why? No real reason, other than working only one band keeps me from being on the radio all day. As I might have mentioned, I don't "chase paper" (seek awards), so working "all this" or "all that" holds no value for me. Your mileage may vary.

--- 6:00 PM - Listening to local Amateur (ham) Radio communications, I learned that an area “ham” has made his way to Lake Arrowhead State Park to make some Parks on the Air® contacts. The Mega Millions drawing is tonight, but it’s just a puny $56,900,000, a mere pittance compared to the recent Powerball $1.8 billion win the night before Christmas. Wow!
