12-23-2025 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, and the Clay County Amateur Radio Club conducts a weekly Skywarn® practice net on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. Tune in with your scanner radio! Yesterday, I picked up some eggnog at the Braum’s on Call Field Road. Walking back to my car, I heard a “hooot hooot.” Not only did Braum’s have fake owls on the building, but they were hooting! I guess a business can have fake hooters, too! My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 5:15 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 80. South southwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. South wind 7 to 9 mph.

--- 6:45 AM - A local missionary was charged with soliciting prostitution. The article I read says he offered men money to perform sex acts in front of him. The article didn’t say that the acts were actually performed. Well, at least they’re all adults. That’s not usually the case in stories like this. As always, suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

--- 7:15 AM - The CB Radio is coming alive with both local traffic on Channel 19 and "DX" (long-distance) traffic scattered across the band. Our City transit bus drivers are chatty on 453.5375 MHz this morning. Let's see what the day brings.

--- 9:30 AM - Wichita Falls probably had a bunch of mosquitoes half-dead due to the couple of short-lived freezes we’ve had. Now, these summertime temperatures are signalling them that it's okay to come out and act a fool!

--- 11:00 AM - I was in United Market Street a few days ago when I observed an employee restocking one of the fruit bins. He sneezed into his hands and continued to restock. A few months ago, I saw an employee at the checkout scanning a customer's goods when he sneezed into his hands. Twice. He then resumed scanning. You never know what germs are on the objects you handle. Unless, that is, you watch them while scanning your goods!

--- 4:30 PM - The CB Radio "superbowlers" (Channel 6, the "superbowl of CB Radio) have been superbowling all day long! It's amazing how loud they are without exceeding the legal limit of 4-watts output! Okay, maybe they’re running 4,000 watts, give or take a hundred or two.

--- 6:15 PM - The Local Group is up and running on CB Radio Channel 23. Several Amateur (ham) Radio operators are chatting on 146.520 MHz, a "simplex" (no repeater) frequency. Tune in or join in!

12-22-2025 - 5:15 AM - Good Morning! It's Monday, and I might make a trip to the south country to see what Spec's has for me. As a northsider, I sometimes refer to that area of town as the south country. My lawn is dead, but I've been thinking about mowing it just to trim some off the top. It's not like it's nappy-looking, so maybe I should leave it alone and drain the lawnmower for the winter. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 5:30 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 74. South southwest wind 5 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 54. South southwest wind around 10 mph.

--- 5:45 AM - The James V. Allred Unit, our very own male maximum-security prison, is quite active on the radio this morning. Tune in to the action at 153.815 MHz on your scanner radio.

--- 6:00 AM - In the news - A former Hooters employee is awaiting trial for murder in Wichita Falls. Vernon, Texas, has expanded its community ice skating rink. I had no idea Vernon had such an attraction. An arrest was made in the recent Alibi Nightclub parking lot shooting. He can't use "Being at the Alibi" as his alibi.

--- 6:10 AM - Some Wichita Falls radio scanning targets: Walmart (154.570 MHz), Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), Wichita County Jail (155.520 MHz), State Hospital (154.800 MHz) city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), WFISD school buses (152.360 MHz), school handheld radios (151.940 MHz), Wichita Valley Airport (122.800 MHz), Kickapoo Airport (122.700 MHz), Wichita Falls Regional Airport / SAFB (119.750 & 122.950 MHz), and the BNSF Railroad (160.920 MHz). Find more local frequencies here!

--- 6:30 AM - A couple of truckers are chatting on CB Radio Channel 19. I have the President McKinley on 40-channel scan, but haven't heard a peep on any other channel, yet. Schools must be out for the Christmas break because the local school bus frequency, 152.360 MHZ, is dead.

9:30 AM - A few years ago, my wife and I stopped at Catfish O’Harlies (formerly known as Catfish Charlie's) in Decatur. What we assumed was a stray cat was enjoying a catfish meal placed just outside the front door by either a diner or an employee. If you can’t have a bird nest on the ground, a friendly catfish restaurant is just as good, or maybe better!

--- 2:15 PM - I contacted a station at Tumacacori National Historical Park (US-0760) in Arizona on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
